From color and lighting to textiles, artwork and personal treasures, they're the details - the hardest, most important, and for me, the very best part - that transform a room into a beautiful, well-loved space.

About Jane Design and Home

Jane Design and Home, led by Maura Corbett, is a residential interior design studio based in Washington, DC, Maryland's Eastern Shore and beyond. The name is a tribute to my mother, Jane, who constantly redesigned everything, eventually opening a successful children's clothing and furniture shop. When I was thirteen, she let me pick out the kitchen wallpaper and she loved it. That changed everything.

On nights and weekends, I helped with the shop, Little Footprints, sourcing at trade shows and learning from her exactly what made pieces worth having. She taught me that it didn't matter what you had in a room if it didn't make people feel good for being in it. And before nursery design became its own industry, I started Goodnight Room, designing children's rooms around the beautiful, special furniture and linens she sourced. For decades, I've designed spaces for friends and family, but always on the side of a demanding full-time career - until now.

Home should be the one place that isn't asking anything of you. In a world that's overwhelming and stressful, your home is supposed to be the opposite. I believe that color is your secret weapon here. It's not just my philosophy, it's actual psychology and what we all already experience intuitively: the colors around you shape how you think and feel, whether you notice it or not. Color for trend's sake or color you're talked into because it's "in" this year is the wrong way to think about it. The right color palette isn't decoration. It's your Goldilocks moment - how you feel when everything finally feels just right.
